Step into an elegant speakeasy in the Roaring ’20s where Dr. Pepper has met his demise. Open Door Theater will perform Eileen Moushey’s The Death of Dr. Pepper in the historic Story Mansion.
With three suspects and a night of mocktails, and desserts, can you solve the crime?
August 17th: Story Under the Stars
Grab your blankets and low-back chairs and head to Story Mansion Park for the 15th annual Story Under the Stars! Presented by the Bozeman Film Society,
this FREE family event will celebrate NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and start with kids’ activities: tetherball, Uncle Rico’s football toss, tater-tot trot, and a dance competition. Add Yellowstone Llamas, popcorn, delicious food from Taco Montes, CC’s Gourmet, and The Milky Way Ice Cream, and you’ve got a SWEET night!

July 13th, 20th & Sep. 21st: Markets at the Mansion

Back by popular demand, the Gallatin Valley Farmers’ Market is coming to the historic T.B. Story Mansion grounds. You can enjoy fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, and coffee at this community event while soaking up the beautiful surroundings!

In recognition of Historic Preservation Month, the City of Bozeman’s Historic Preservation Advisory Board and Friends of the Story Mansion are pleased to welcome Betsy Gaines Quammen, a New York Times best-selling author, to the Story Mansion. We discussed the myths of the West and how they influence and shape current perceptions.

March 23rd through April 14th: Cabinets of Curiosity

Random Acts of Silliness featured the Cabinets of Curiosity at the historic T.B. Story Mansion. Created by Southwest Montana artists, beautifully crafted and interactive cabinets captivated and delighted the imagination.

November 3rd, 2023: Resources for Historic Preservation – MSU Library & You
FOSM and the Bozeman Preservation Advocacy Group welcomed Jodi Allison-Bunnell and Heather Mulliner, archivists and subject area experts, to share their knowledge of local historic preservation resources at our First Friday gathering in the historic T.B. Story Mansion.

October 1, 2023: 100th Anniversary Celebration of the last Story family event in the T.B. Story Mansion in 1923
Friends of the Story Mansion celebrated the 100th wedding anniversary of the eldest Story daughter & the last Story family event at the T.B. Story Mansion in 1923. Board Members & Friends enjoyed cake, punch, and fellowship as we celebrated the wedding of Katherine Story, & Walter Burr. Members-only events can be accessed by purchasing a $25 Annual Membership. All new or renewing members will receive full membership benefits through 2024.

August 25th, 2023 from 6:30-10:00 PM: Story Under the Stars
Rain, gosh…no problem, we pivot. The 14th Annual STORY UNDER THE STARS is going to be flippin’ sweet! Brought to you by the Bozeman Preservation Advocacy Group (BPAG), First Friday Forums are a time to convene to discuss and enhance the historic character and growth in Bozeman and the Gallatin Valley.

Please join our efforts to preserve, restore and reuse the Story Mansion by helping us reach our goal of $5,000. Your support allows us to host annual events at the mansion open to the public, such as Story Under the Stars, Witches Night, and our elegant Victorian Tea. We envision a fully restored mansion and carriage house for year-round events that build community connection as we raise awareness of the possibilities for restoration for reuse of our nationally recognized landmark.

April 7, 2023, at Noon: Historic Preservation in Bozeman
First Fridays at the Story Mansion are back! These discussions inform residents about historic landmark initiatives and current affairs.
The City of Bozeman’s Historic Preservation Officer, Sarah Rosenberg, will speak at this event and discuss the current status of preservation in Bozeman and what we’re doing to make preservation more equitable and inclusive.

December 4, 2022: VICTORIAN HOLIDAY TEA

Don your best vintage attire and join the Friends of the Story Mansion this Sunday, December 4th to bask in the grandeur of Bozeman’s treasured historic mansion at our annual Victorian Holiday Tea.
We’ll serve hot teas, homemade cookies, and savory treats on vintage china in the elegant first-floor living room, dining room, foyer, and library of the Story Mansion, located at 811 South Willson Avenue.
There will be two seatings, each for 50 people. Our first seating will be at 12:30 pm and the second seating is at 3:30 pm. The cost is $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Make your reservation by calling Bozeman Parks & Recreation Department at 406-582-2290.

August 20, 2022: STORY UNDER THE STARS presents…Ghostbusters!

Bring your family and a picnic blanket this Saturday, August 20th, and enjoy this classic 1984 comedy. Bring your own picnic dinner, or partake of the many food truck offerings. Popcorn will be served! The movie begins at dusk.

May 15, 2022: Kathryn Rogers Merlino presents on Adaptive Re-Use

Question: How can we encourage and implement more sustainable development in Bozeman with a culture and practice of adaptive reuse and historic preservation?
Answer: Please make time in your busy schedules and come to our special event this Sunday, May 15, 2022- at 3 pm at the Story Mansion! We welcome Professor Kathryn Rogers Merlino on “Adaptive Reuse Sustainability and Preservation” in Bozeman. Seattle is her “laboratory” — and ground zero like Bozeman for these issues — a boom town with a weak history of effective Historic Preservation and sustainability.

Friends of the Story Mansion is a volunteer group that works with the City of Bozeman to raise awareness and funding for the renovation and upkeep of the historical gem, the Story Mansion. We think the mansion is a diamond in the rough just waiting for the right tenant match that will really make this jewel shine! April 12th – May 8th, 2022: RANDOM ACTS OF SILLINESS presents CABINETS OF CURIOSITY

Inspired by natural history but with a magical twist, on display throughout the Story Mansion will be cabinets filled with curious and engaging objects gathered by an imaginary family of collectors: mesmerizing mementos, fanciful renditions of scientific specimens and artifacts, and even encapsulated sounds and memories. Created by seven talented Montana artists, the cabinets will be interactive, designed to engage all the senses, and sure to fascinate and delight visitors of all ages. Presented in partnership with Bozeman Parks and Recreation, the exhibit will be free and open to the public from April 12th to May 8th.

We had a great turnout for our fall cleanup of the grounds! We hope to see you and a friend at future opportunities!


BRING A FRIEND! Friends of the Story Mansion will be having a Fall Clean Up at the Story Mansion property at 811 S Willson Ave on October 16 starting at 9 am. There is weeding and hedge trimming to be done. Mulch will also be added to the beds. Volunteers should bring gloves, clippers, weeding equipment, shovels, and hedge trimmers that they have. Gather your friends, blankets and flashlights for Saturday, August 28th when the Friends of the Story Mansion (FOSM) and the Bozeman Film Society return to Story Mansion Park for Bozeman’s’ FREE end-of-summer outdoor film celebration!
This summer features the 40th Anniversary screening of “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, starring Harrison Ford. The evening begins at 7PM with food trucks, ice cream, and activities. The movie and popcorn starts at dusk. Thank you to the #CityofBozemanParksandRecreation for the use of our beautiful Story Mansion Park!
